FIRE NEEDLE ACUPUNCTURE
Fire needle acupuncture or fire needling, is a treatment method where a needle that has been heated till it is red is quickly inserted into an acupuncture point. This method has channel warming and cold expelling uses as well as channel stimulating properties. Clinically it is a suitable therapy for those that are oedematous, have cold and weak bodily constitutions.
Fire needle acupuncture has a history of over a thousand years in China. The earliest records were in the medical text ‘Yellow Emperor’s Internal Canon’(Huang Di Nei Jing). Physicians clinically utilised and researched the fire needle acupuncture technique over generations, allowing it to continuously develop and improve, resulting in it becoming a unique treatment system in acupuncture.
Fire needle acupuncture has channel warming, channel opening, dispelling of pathogenic wind and cold properties. Its main uses are for localised pain, gastroptosis, epigastric pain, diarrhoea, dysentery, impotence, tuberculous cervical lymphadenitis, rubella, irregular menstruation, menstrual pain, rickets, flat warts and moles.
